Requesting or changing a provisional assessment as a business owner
No tax is withheld from a business owner’s income. With a provisional assessment you pay during the year, in instalments, and avoid a big bill later.
Why a provisional assessment?
Without one you pay everything after your return, sometimes eighteen months later, all at once. With one you pay monthly and know where you stand.
Request or change it
Request or change it in Mijn Belastingdienst, logging in with DigiD. Enter the profit you expect this year under Winst uit onderneming. If an assessment no longer fits, for instance because profit is much higher or lower, change it.
Until when?
Usually until 1 May of the following year. If you received an invitation to file, the date in that invitation applies.
Avoiding tax interest
On income tax still due after the year, tax interest runs from 1 July after that year. You avoid it if you file before 1 May and the tax authority accepts your figures unchanged. A well-estimated provisional assessment also prevents a large additional bill.
Received one you did not request?
The tax authority often sends business owners an assessment based on earlier years. Check that it matches this year’s expected profit, especially if business is better or worse.
We estimate it for you
We prepare a well-founded profit forecast and arrange the provisional assessment, so you pay neither too much nor too little.
